Gather enough cardboard to cover area with several layers. We suggest using only uncolored cardboard and removing tape, stickers, and staples.
Mow existing vegetation.
Water the plot thoroughly (if water is available).
Put down pieces of cardboard with aggressive overlapping so there are no gaps. Add a total of at least 3 double layers or 6 single layers.
Water cardboard thoroughly (if water is available).
Weigh down cardboard to prevent it from blowing away. Can use rocks, sticks, mulch, whatever you have available.
Leave for 3 months or more.
Remove cardboard.
Seed or transplant potted plants immediately into bare soil.
If you planted consider adding mulch around the plants to suppress weeds and hold in soil moisture. Do not add mulch if you added seeds.
If possible, water plants as needed for the first year.
